5 Tips to Rest, Reset, & Recharge like a Boerneite in This New Year
Written by Elisabeth Lopez
Well “HELLO, New Year” and “HEY THERE, 2022”! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday, filled with lots of good memories to carry you through the rest of this wintry season! But, speaking of holiday memories (and all that goes into making them)…that full calendar of holiday to-dos, fun activities, and magic making have left us a bit—tired!
That’s why, this month, we’re committing to the 3 Rs: Resting, Resetting and Recharging. Around here, we love our New Year’s resolutions, BUT with so much going on these days, a little self-care seems to be in order. So, this post-holiday season, we’ll be kicking off the new year with a much needed breather.
Honestly, there are so many ways to practice self-care, that the hardest part is making time for it! So, if you’re out of practice and need a few helpful tips to get you started, we’ve got you covered. Pick a few, then block time on your schedule and commit! Let’s get started!
Tip #1 - It’s time for social hour!
Schedule a catch-up for coffee and a cranberry scone at Bear Moon Bakery & Cafe, a leisurely brunch at The Dienger Trading Co. or alfresco lunch at Boerne Epicure Gourmet Market. Don’t forget to plan for a round of drinks at Richter Tavern, too. Their rooftop view is wonderful for people-watching and enjoying a bit of fresh air. However, if you’re more of a homebody, then a night in may be just what you need after all the holiday fuss. Get dinner started with a bag of our specialty Italian pasta from La Romagna, then up your homemade cocktail game with our unique and vintage drink sets!
Tip #2 - Take a nature break.
Kendall County is known for its gorgeous Hill Country flora and fauna, so let your mind tune out with a leisurely walk on one of Boerne’s beautiful nature trails. Of course, every nature enthusiast knows the best walks happen when the sun isn’t in your eyes, so make sure to snag one of our Boerne-branded caps before you head out. Pro tip: If you stroll along the far east side of the Cibolo Trail around dusk, you’ll most likely catch a glimpse of one of our cute resident deer families…or two!
Tip #3 - Refresh your space.
Once the holiday decor is stored away, we get the urge to redecorate. Maybe it’s all that vacant space left behind by the stowed-away Christmas tree, or just the start of a new year, but January always seems like the perfect month for a home style redo. If that’s you too, we’ve got more than a few fun options around the shop. One of our favorite ideas? Bucking the colder weather by bringing the greenery indoors! A well-placed wreath or a delicate bouquet is guaranteed to brighten these sometimes dreary winter days.
Tip #4 - Wash away your cares.
Maybe your most relaxing self-care moments come with fragrant essential oils and hydrating moisturizers. If that’s you, then Cielo Mercantile has all you need for the perfect relaxing bath. We highly recommend the Milk & Honey Oatmeal Bath Bomb paired with the Milk & Honey Oatmeal Body Butter. Of course, the bath is just the beginning. So before you hop in the tub, make sure to check out the Corner Cartel’s selection of luxury masks, eye treatments, exfoliators, and candle collections—all of which are sure to bring about that much-craved pampered glow and melt your stress away in a flash.
Tip #5 - Silence is Golden.
If you need a place to hear yourself think, you’re sure to find a great spot at the Patrick Heath Public Library. The grounds of the library are serene, filled with natural reading nooks inside and out, plus rotating works of art, courtesy of Art Al Fresco. But if what you’re really looking for is silence, then make sure to visit one of the “quiet please” study rooms inside the library. Our favorite features massive windows and even a cozy fireplace! Of course, what’s a great reading nook without a great book? We know the library is filled with a plethora of fantastic selections, but for those of you still enjoying tip #3, we’d love to offer a few recommendations straight from Corner Cartel’s bookshelves. No matter your design style, our book selection has you covered—from down-home Southern to chic, cottage French, and everything in between and beyond!
Well that’s a wrap on our top 5! Now it’s time to rest up, reset, and recharge. And of course, when you need a little retail therapy, we’ll be here for you. Happy New Year to you and your family, from all of us at Corner Cartel!
